Coffee
*COFFEE*
I want to pick a discussion on the lovely drink  called ‘Coffee’ today... But before I proceed, let me communicate something. I want us to be reminded that our knowledge of food is a very powerful ðŸ›¡arsenal. If you have a good knowledge of food, you’ve just reduced your likelihood of frequently visiting the doctor by 50%. Really!
Back to our discussion, what is Coffee?  I know a lot of people love it. Coffee is a brewed drink prepared from roasted coffee beans, the seeds of berries from certain coffee species. (Wikipedia Definition)... ðŸ˜‰
Coffee is darkly coloured, bitter, slightly acidic and has stimulating effect in humans, primarily due to its caffeine content. It is one of the most popular drinks in the world. It is usually served hot although iced coffee is a popular alternative.
*Health Benefits*
Coffee has been around for a long time and blamed for many ils – from stunting your growth to causing heart disesase – but newer research shows that it may actually have health benefits.
In fact, some studies have found an association between coffee consumption and overall mortality and possibly cardiovascular mortality, although this may not be true in younger people who drink large amounts of coffee.
Studies have revealed that coffee may help protect against type-2 diabetes by controlling the biological activity of the body’s sex hormones. Researchers in the US concluded that higher caffeine intake reduces the incidence of Parkinson’s disease. Italian researchers found that coffee consumption lowers the risk of cancer by about 40%. Coffee also appears to improve cognitive function and decrease the risk of depression, also helps protect against heart failure.
*Conclusion*
Although coffee may have fewer risks compared with benefits, keep in mind that other beverages, such as milk and some fruit juices, contain nutrients that coffee doesn’t. Also, adding cream and sugar to your coffee adds fat and calories – up to hundreds of calories in some cases. So I’d say, in all your drinking, add moderation... ðŸ˜‰ Smiles.
