*ORGANIC FOODS*
It was yesterday we discussed coffee, I don’t know why my mind 💆🏻♂perceives its smell and ☕ flavour this morning. Anyway, I think you will love to read the article if you missed it. Just scroll down, you’d find it.
So what is Organic Food?
Organic food is food produced by organic farming. Organic farming restricts the use of synthetic pesticides, fertilizers etc. In general, Organic Foods are usually not processed using irradiation, industrial solvents, or synthetic food additives. It’s all about being natural or rather being organic, just as the name implies.
There is a popular wrong belief that organic food are healthier. This was initiated by the marketers of organic foods. The fact is that being organic doesn’t mean a food is healthy. You can now buy pesticide-free potato chips and organic jelly beans, and there are even organic Oreo cookies. Junk food is still junk food, even if it was produced organically.
You may be surprised to learn that a review of hundreds of studies found that organic produce doesn’t seem to have significantly more vitamins & minerals. They do, however, appear to have more non-traditional nutrients, like polyphenol antioxidants, perhaps because conventionally grown plants given high-dose synthetic nitrogen fertilizers may divert more resources to growth rather than defence. This may be why organic berries, for example, appear to suppress cancer growth better than conventional berries in vitro.
