Scent Leaf

Scent leaf known as Efinrin in Yoruba, Nchanwu in Igbo and Daidoya in Hausa whose botanical name is Ocimum gratissimum, is a tropical plant species that belongs to the family of labiatae. 
It is usually a homegrown shrub used mainly as spices for cooking delicacies due to it unique aromatic taste. Scent leaves are high in Calcium, Phosphorus, Iron, Potassium, Carbon and Vitamin A. 

The scent leaf has been reported to be rich in plants chemicals. Oil from the leaves has been shown to possess antiseptic, antibacterial and antifungal activities.

1. Scent leaf aids digestion. If you are the type of person that eats late at night, it is likely you will experience indigestion and bloating. Scent leaf has immense health benefits such as easy bowel evacuation and weight measurement.  
2. Scent leaf can be used to treat stomach ache, diarrhea, chronic dysentery and vomiting. The aqueous extracts of the scent leaf can be taken to relied ear ache and colon pains.
3. You can bid goodbye to smelly mouth as scent leaf will kill all the bacteria in your mouth and also prevent tooth decay and bad breath. Hence scent leaf can be said to treat oral infection. The stick of this leaf is being used by some people as a local chewing stick.
4. It is used in the treatment of fungal infections, fever, cold and catarrh. Squeezed scent leaves are applied on the skin for treating skin diseases and ringworm.
5. Scent leaf can also be used for the prevention and treatment of malaria, catarrh, cough and fever.
