Food allergy 2

Welcome back to the Food Allergy series!

Last week we were able to define food allergy from its root word, this week we shall look majorly into foods causing allergy reactions
While any food will cause an adverse reaction, eight varieties of food account for about 90 % of all reactions:
*Eggs, Milk, Peanuts, Tree nuts, Fish, Shellfish, Wheat, and Soy.*
Other commonest food allergies are associated with the listed ones

Now picking up each of the food itemized above.

Let's talk about EGG ALLERGY.
Egg allergy is rampant in children; most are allergic to egg whites than egg yolk, while some include both.
Children within 6 and 15 months with infantile eczema are prone to egg allergy
Common symptoms include skin reactions such as eczema, hives or swelling, stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea, or vomiting, wheezing or trouble breathing, stuffy or runny nose, fast heartbeat.

In extremely rare cases, anaphylactic shock may occur. This is a medical emergency.

Considering,Milk Allergy
Milk allergies are the most common food allergy, followed by allergies to peanuts and eggs.
The symptoms are
Hives, Wheezing, Itching or tingling feeling around the lips or mouth, Swelling of the lips, tongue or throat, Coughing or shortness of breath, Vomiting

One thing I will still love to expatiate on is what is known as milk intolerance
Milk intolerance also called lactose intolerance and it is different from milk allergy,as milk intolerance is not an Allergy. The distinct difference is that Milk intolerance does not involve abnormality of the Immune system, as allergy cannot be defined without immune being talked about.

Progressing to Soy Allergy,
It symptoms may include; Tingling in the mouth, Hives; itching; or itchy, scaly skin (eczema), Swelling of the lips, face, tongue and throat, or other body parts, Wheezing, a runny nose or breathing difficulty, Abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting, Skin redness (flushing)

Also, wheat allergy might involve reaction like swelling, itching or irritation of the mouth or throat, hives, itchy rash or swelling of the skin, nasal congestion, headache, difficulty breathing, cramps, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea

Join me same time, next Thursday for the continuation of the series.
