ALKINS DIET



     The alkins diet is  low carbohydrate diet that is supposed to help people lose weight by forcing their bodies to burn fat instead of carbohydrates for energy.

   People on alkins diet cut down on carbohydrates, but they are allowed to eat high fat foods that most health care professionals tell people to avoids such as;

• Sugars like soft drinks, ice cream, fruit juices etc

• Vegetables oil like soya beans, corn oil, cotton seed.

• Legumes like lentils beans, peas etc.

• High carb vegetables like carrot, turnips, etc.


Food to eat should base on this diet healthy foods such as; 

• Meat like beef, pork, lamb chicken etc

• Low carb vegetables like spinach, broccoli, asparagus and other.

• Fatty fish and seafood

• Full fat dairy like butter, cheesecream and yogurt full of fat.


Some people who are already at a healthy body size might use the alkins programs to maintain their weight or boost their health.

    The alkins diet comprises of 4 different phases 


PHASE 1 {INDUCTION}: The dietary has to restrict the carbohydrates intake  by eating food rich in high fat, high protein, with low carbs vegetables like leafy greens.


PHASE 2 {BALANCING}: Some healthy carbs can be slowly added to the diet such as low carb vegetables and small amount of fruit.


PHASE 3 {FINE TURNING}: The carbohydrates can be added until weight loss slow down.


PHASE 4 {MAINTENANCE}: Continue the healthy eating habits for lifetime without regaining weight.


 Advantages of alkins diet are weight loss, help prevent cardiovascular disease and lower the low density of liproprotein {LDL} cholesterol and increase the amount of the good cholesterol l{HDL}  while the disadvantages of alkins diet are headache, leg cramps and the contribution to osteoporosis and kidney stones

  While on alkins diet one can eat low carbohydrates vegetables like lettuce, broccoli, spinach, asparagus, pumpkins, turnips, cauliflower, and tomatoes and most protein foods like meat, seafood, and egg and healthy fat like olive oil for cooking.


 “As long as you base your meals around a fatty protein source with vegetables or nuts and some healthy fats, you will surely lose weight."
