White Bread


White bread is one of the most popular staple foods worldwide. It is made from refined wheat flour. Refined wheat flour already has brans and germ layers eliminated. Although this process has a number of baking advantages, however the removal of bran and germ layers also leads to the loss of dietary fibre, minerals, vitamins and some other essential nutrients. However, fortification remains an avenue to replace a number of nutrients that might have already been lost. 

White bread is a food rich in carbohydrates. However, having a glycaemic index of 75 makes it rank very high on the glycaemic index. Food that are high on the glycaemic index have the ability to greatly increase your blood sugar level immediately after consumption. This is because they are composed of sugar that can be easily broken down and speedily digested. Due to its level of contribution to the blood sugar level, over dependence on white bread may lead to weight gain and increased risk of diabetes. 

Sugar plays an important role in the body, in fact a role that cannot be played by any other nutrient. However, the point is that, it can be dangerous to our health when it is ingested in excess. 

White bread may not be all bad as the media sometimes project, however the point is you need to get conscious about eating a balanced diet. Basing a majority of your diet solely on white bread may not be so healthy as well. It is nutritional advisable to consume more of whole foods than refined foods.
 
Never forget that, eating well is your responsibility. Your body is the only home you have to live on this planet, take very good care of it. Watch your diet, eat well always.
