Amazing Reasons Why You Should Eat Snails

 


I remember those days my Dad would get plenty of snails (that had been processed) home from work. I always looked forward to Wednesdays meal (if your home is like mine that has a food timetable for each day) of Rice and Snail Stew, Yummy!😋


Talk about snails, most people, especially in our blessed country Nigeria, have several reservations towards it, most of what they say appears superstitious. 

However, snail in itself has it amazing benefits in the body, some of which you will find out in this article.


Snails are small mollusks that wreck havoc in your garden or crawl around on the wall, sidewalks after rain. Snails are actually mouth watering delicacy especially when cooked in a well garnished sauce. To some people eating snails sounds unpleasant but if they can get past their thoughts, they will discover snails have a unique taste. When cooked, it takes on the flavour of whatever meal, behind this garlicky goodness, is there any nutritional substances? 

Let’s take a look at some of the amazing reasons why you should eat snails.


1. Snail is a source of Protein 

Snails do provide a low calorie source of protein which is essential for building and repairing muscle and is also better at filling you up than carbs and fat. Most people look to seafood as an easy source of protein, but actually snails have more.


2. Snail is a source of Selenium 

We do not need much selenium in our bodies, but we do need some to keep a healthy immune system and to protect cells against damage. And, snails contain selenium.


3. Snail is a source of Iron

The iron nutrient found in snails is essential for building red blood cells and carrying energy around the body. One serving of snails contains 22% of recommended daily allowance of Iron. A lack of iron can lead to extreme fatigue and anemia.


4. Snail is a source of Magnesium 

Snails are also a good source of magnesium which our bodies need to maintain a normal blood pressure, strengthen bones and also keep the heartbeat regular. 


5. Snail is a source of Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 is needed to build red blood cells, keep the nervous system healthy, release energy from the food we eat and process folic acid. Amazingly, snails got plenty of it.
