Hypoglycemia is a condition in which the blood sugar is low which results in anxiety, rapid heart beat, headache, hunger, weakness and severe case seizure and coma. It occurs in people with insulin imbalance and diabetes. There are two types of hypoglycemia which are;
• Reactive hypoglycemia
• Fasting hypoglycemia
Reactive Hypoglycemia:
These occurs when there is a high consumption of carbohydrate rich food which causes insulin to be released. However the insulin released is too much which leads to a rapid fall in blood glucose and abnormal level.
Fasting Hypoglycemia:
Abnormal insulin secretion which leads to low blood glucose levels often caused by pancreatic tumors.
The most common cause of hypoglycemia is medications used to treat diabetes such as insulin and sulfonylureas, kidney failure is also a cause of hypoglycemia.
Symptoms of hypoglycemia include
• Hunger
• Shakiness
• Anxiety
• Sweating
• Pale skin
• Fast or irregular heartbeat
• Sleepiness
• Dizziness
