DANCE

These days, people love to watch other people dance. Organized dance challenge, dance videos, dance application for exercise and many more. Some of us like me even try to learn those dance moves. What you may not realize is that if you get off the couch and dance yourself, it’s a great way to keep your body and mind healthy. Studies have proven that dance helps lose weight, reduce stress, stay flexible, and even make friends.

So what are you waiting for? Start dancing to reap the health benefits of dance today. Some of these health benefits are as follows;

Dance Improves Balance and Strength.

Dancing requires a lot of fast movement and a good posture, so frequent dancing will help you stabilize and gain better control of your body.

Dance Improves Cardiovascular Health.

Dance is a great activity for those at risk for cardiovascular disease.

Movement that we typically do in our daily life, like walking, taking the stairs and common workouts like treadmills and cycling, occur in sagittal plane but dance works your body from all planes.

Dance Challenges your brain.

Dance not only instills grace, but it also helps you age gracefully. Dancing may boost your memory and prevent you from developing dementia as you get older. Science reveals that aerobic exercise can reverse volume loss in the hippocampus, the part of the brain that control memory. The hippocampus naturally shrinks during late adulthood, which often leads to impaired memory and sometimes dementia.

Dance Improves Flexibility.

The more you dance, the more flexible you become. Those plies and arabesques that ballet dancers practice aren’t just for aesthetics they also increase flexibility and reduce stiffness. Increasing your flexibility will help ease joint pain and post exercise soreness.

Types of Dance

There are various types of dance and all these dance benefits the body as explained above;

Ballet

Belly dance

Hip hop

Salsa

Jazz and many more.

Dancing can be a way to stay fit for people of all ages, shapes and size. Keep dancing!
